Kate Chapman Specter is a digital manufacturing designer whose work explores structural relationships of patterns in nature, the human body and movement through time. Techniques include digital 3D modeling, 3D animation, 3D printing, CNC milling, casting, and hand finishing. Prior to receiving an MFA in digital arts at Pratt, Kate was a neuroscientist, having worked for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and as a drug researcher for the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS). She has been the lead digital modeler for a renowned sculptor, Barry X Ball, designed buttons and fashion findings for mass production, and made fine art sculptures and jewelry of her own using 3D printing.
